Business Profile in Gemini: not built for multi-location

Business Profile in Gemini, Google’s tool for managing a Google Business Profile by chatting with its AI assistant, is now live and, in Google’s August small-business newsletter, described as generally available on desktop and mobile. For multi-location brands, the phrase to ignore is “multi-location support.” Google’s own Business Profile Help page states the feature is not available to anyone who manages more than one verified profile, and it still excludes the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. It stays a single-profile tool.

What happened

Google added Business Profile management to the Gemini app in June 2026, letting a single business owner update details, draft review replies, and check performance by chatting with the assistant. In August, Google’s “Small Business Bulletin” described the feature as generally available on desktop and mobile, and several industry outlets reported that it now works for accounts managing multiple businesses.

Google’s own Help documentation, which sets the current eligibility rules, describes something narrower. To use it, a person must sign in with a personal Google Account rather than a work or school account, must be the owner or manager of exactly one verified Business Profile, and must be in a supported region. Availability still excludes the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Inside Gemini, a qualifying owner can update hours, contact information, menus, photos, attributes, and action links, draft replies to reviews, manage posts, and review impressions, website clicks, direction requests, and bookings.

Why it matters

The distance between “generally available” and the documented eligibility rules is the whole story for an enterprise team. Every condition Google lists points away from the multi-location operator. A central team manages many profiles, not one. It signs in through an organizational identity, not a personal Google Account. And it often runs markets in the EEA or the UK, where the feature is not offered at all. Any one of those conditions is enough to rule a multi-location operation out.

What this means for multi-location brands

If your team saw the “multi-location” headlines and asked whether to start managing profiles through Gemini, the answer for an enterprise estate is still no. Managing locations one profile at a time in a consumer chat app fragments control, skips approval workflows, and makes consistency across the estate impossible to enforce. Bulk operations, the Google Business Profile API, and a central management platform remain the way to keep listings and review responses consistent across hundreds or thousands of locations.

One part does matter, though. Google is wiring Business Profile data into its assistant, so the accuracy and completeness of every location’s data increasingly shapes what Gemini tells customers about your brand. That raises the stakes on data hygiene at scale, which is the work a central team and an agentic layer like Places AI should already own.

“Not available to owners or managers who have access to more than one verified Business Profile.”

The bottom line

The August update makes Business Profile in Gemini easier to reach, not broader in who it serves. It is still a single-profile convenience, still absent from the EEA and UK, and still not an enterprise tool, whatever the headlines say. The enterprise takeaway is unchanged: keep management centralised, and keep every location’s data accurate, because that data increasingly shapes what AI tells customers about you.
